LORE OLYMPUS VOL. 2

When she was in your realm, in your care, did you show her the best you could be?
— Lore Olympus Vol. 2 by Rachel Smythe

I ate this book up so quickly. I love seeing the story of the Greek gods told with a modern twist. Something I admire about Hadestown. In this iteration, we see Hades as a CEO of the Underworld and Persephone as a college girl and heir to a fortune. What I loved about this second installment is that we see more of Hades’ soft side. His internal struggle as he falls in love with Persephone while also realizing the danger. The world, in this book, has an image of Hades as a cold ruler of the Underworld but Persephone sees past that. We’re left on a cliffhanger. We’re left wondering if Persephone’s warmth and infectious joy will be enough to connect them or break them apart. Rachel, once again, has a crafted an emotionally rich story with some of the most gorgeous illustrations I’ve ever seen. Her use of light and texture is cinematic and kept my eyes glued to every page. I can’t wait to read the rest of this series!
