LORE OLYMPUS VOL. 1

Hades, all the fine suits in the world won’t change the fact that you stink of death.
— Lore Olympus Vol. 1 by Rachel Smythe

I started reading Lore Olympus years ago on Webtoon and instantly fell in love with it. I’ve always been intrigued by the Greek gods, especially because of how humanlike their conflict was. Lore Olympus does a good job of modernizing their stories with all the accoutrements of today like cars and cell phones. It made them feel even more relatable. Hades and Persephone have such a unique love story in Greek mythology and Rachel Smythe has done a great job of making their story feel accessible. There’s a perfect mix of humor and drama, enough that the story feels engaging and causes the reader to forget that they’re witnessing the love lives, and conflict of Greek gods. The illustrations are stunning and Smythe’s use of color and focusing/unfocusing panels makes the book cinematic. This graphic novel is stunning and I’m so happy that the webcomic has a physical life. To be able to touch it and see it on paper made all the difference and brought the story to life in a new way that surprised me.
