A man is reborn many times. Through salvation and life’s trials that forces him to become different iterations of himself. He is never his past and not quite his future. He is a being that exists in between time’s most coveted moments. The glories of yesteryear and the wonders of what is to come. 

I’ve been preparing for old age since I was a child. Princes of this land are prepared for the Crown from the minute they leave the womb. My father told me that there was great fanfare on the day of my birth. The first son and heir to the throne was a boy. A reflection of his father. No greater burden has ever been placed on my shoulders. The idea of one day sitting in my father’s throne gives me shivers that wakes me some nights. 

I remember the day when it became brutally apparent who I was. When a young prince reaches the age of 17 he is given the designation of Prince, Heir Apparent. He will spend the years leading up to the Royal Ascension taking Royal Lessons with the King’s Council. How to walk, how to speak, how to think, and how to govern, as a king would.  It is a slow march toward the inevitable, my father’s death. It begins with the Knighting of the Heir Apparent…
